West Virginia

I guess you won't be seeing me for a little while. I'm off to Elkhorn, West Virginia!

I'm going on a mission trip with my church for one week. We are going with a group called SWAP (Sharing with Appalachian People). We will be doing anything that needs to be done. From what I gather, just helping the community. Such as fixing homes...building wheel chair ramps...repainting... Could be almost anything. I guess I'll have to report what I've done when I return.

If you switch to Salilite view, you will see that we are way way way out in the boonies. And up in the mountains.

Firefox 3 Bookmarks

I'm not sure about you, but I'm a big fan of the bookmarks toolbar. I like having the bookmarks readily available. Well, I've got a great tip for you. In Firefox 3 the new quick bookmark feature was added. The first thing I tried to do is drag the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder to the toolbar - and was disappointed. It makes a copy of the folder.

Today I've discovered how to get the unsorted bookmarks on the toolbar. Right click the bookmarks toolbar and click "New Bookmark". Now, where it says "Location:" type "place:folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS". It's as simple as that. The bookmark will now display all of the unsorted bookmarks. I hope you enjoy this quick tip.

GOOG-411

Google's 411 service has come to Canada!

There's not much to say about it. Using Goog-411 you can quickly look up any businesses that you don't have the number for. I just used it to find Futureshop. It's really simple and intuitive. Try it out!

Global, BBC World, MSNBC and many other newscasts thought this was deserving. So do I.

Ants Eating a Gecko

I figured I just had to share this video, it's just too insane.

Firefox 3!

First things first!
Firefox 3 was released yesterday! (Download)
I've been waiting for this release for quite some time. The first thing I noticed was the speed. Firefox 3 is quite a bit faster than Firefox 2 with the updated rendering engine. In general there are many usability updates. On the bookmark toolbar there is a "Most Visited" folder which is quite handy. Quick bookmarking and the extra detail in the address bar is also quite useful. There are tones of new additions to Firefox's security model, so I won't go through them all. But if you are curious you can get more info from their security page. The new download manager - good stuff. You need to try it for yourself. But I think one of my favourite new additions is the custom application launcher. You can set what program you would like Firefox to run when opening a file with a specific extension. Everything just looks that much cleaner. Excellent work Mozilla Developers! Some of the new features can be seen in this quick video.

Driving home from work today, I heard on the radio that Stats Canada has released a new set of statistics. They have discovered that if you spend 22 or more hours a week watching tv, you have a higher chance of becoming obese. This is shocking! I thought for sure that the people who are out exercising would be far more obese than the ones who sit around and watch tv. I'd like to know the stats on how much money is spent on stats like these.

Releasing the music in your head

ted.com is one of my favourite sites. This video is called "Releasing the music in your head." And it shows how people with physical disabilities can write music using new technologies. Dan Ellsey is a man with cerebral palsy and is a fantastic composer and even sells his own cds.

If you want to skip the "techy" stuff, and hear Dan and his music you can skip to the 12 minute mark.

Body Builders

The recent advances in human genetics are quite astounding. This video shows some new techniques that have been developed.

Contact Me!

One important feature that has been missing for far too long... a Contact page! Clicking my name at the very very bottom of the page will bring you to a contact form. Just supply your name and email, as well as a subject and a message. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Got burned.

Ouch, my legs are hurting. Marc, Leanne, Steph and I spent the day at Grand Bend. It was the perfect day, but we underestimated the strength of the sun. We got a little burned. Oh well, we found a secret spot that's secluded and has a great shore with public washrooms etc. It's where Lake Rd. meets the water. You should check it out, and get there early, because there is only room for a few cars to park.

Ok, So I stumbled upon this video today, and felt that you might enjoy it. I don't even want to know how long it took to create this. If you're not impressed, maybe you've never played line rider. It's all the rage, and you can play it here. Enjoy.

(MacBook Air == Expensive Knife)

Hmm... I'm not sure if I'd be cutting a cake with a $1,800 laptop. Especially one that's *nix based. But apparently he has some money to burn. Oh well, it seems to be more useful than other laptops. And I sincerely hope he doesn't get any aluminum oxide thermal compound on the cake. That just might kill him.
